You will be an experienced and qualified child care worker who is able to undertake casual/agency work to provide staff cover as and when required. It can be as little as one shift per month or more regular shifts over a period of time.

You must have experience of working with children and young people in a paid or voluntary capacity and hold a Diploma level 3 Children’s Health and Social care, NVQ level 3 child care qualification or equivalent.

Working in children’s homes, the role involves helping to look after a group of young people who will have behavioural and emotional difficulties, which is both challenging and rewarding. Some of the children use specialist equipment to aid communication, stimulation and may need assistance with personal care.

You may be required to support Children’s Residential and Respite homes across a range of hours and shifts.

You may be required to enable homes with a continuity of staffing in which to provide care to children and young people.

You may be required to contribute to the success of the service by promoting the Statement Of Purpose of the home, its objectives and outcomes for children in order to achieve an Ofsted Rating of Good or better.

From time to time, you may be required to work at short notice if you choose to do so.

 

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • To support the team to implement care plans, devise behaviour management plans, risk assessments and health plans with support; this ensures children are cared for consistently.
  • To ensure that all children’s files are kept up- to- date and any remedial action is taken promptly. This not only ensures information held on children is accurate, it contributes to the inspection process.
  • To supervise the day to day physical and emotional needs of the children in accord with Racial; Cultural; Religious; linguistic and dietary needs. This ensures children and young people are supported to go to school, enjoy leisure activities, stay healthy and also safe.
  • To adhere to all the requirements in relation to the Safe Handling of Medication and follow all relevant procedures in line with Departmental Policy. Make sure children receive any medicines at the right dosage and at the prescribed times.
  • To ensure confidentiality of information in line with the Data Protection Act.
  • Responsibility to ensure that all mandatory training is undertaken and kept up-to-date.
  • To provide day to day 24hr care to a group of young people, some may have physical or learning disabilities /Autism. Some may have suffered neglect or abuse. All are likely to display some challenging behaviour.
  • You may be working unsocial hours and shifts on a rota including some weekends and bank holidays.
  • Tasks will include some shopping, cleaning and cooking. Assisting children with their Personal care and hygiene. Carrying out tasks a parent would do.
  • To obtain, transmit and record information both verbally, written and electronically.
  • To engage in physically activities and tasks including walking, bending moving and handling and leisure activities with young people.
  • Responsible for access to petty cash and /or amenity monies for outdoor activities. Responsibility for young people’s belongings and money. Access to equipment and property used in the course of duties.
  • Supervising children/young people overnight on trips, holidays as required.
  • Able to be mobile to attend meetings, appointments at Doctors, Schools, Social Work Offices across the District as required.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Health and Social Care

 

Or equivalent from the list below; 

  • NVQ 3 Caring for children and young people
  • NVQ 3 promoting Independence. 
  • BA in Social Work
  • NVQ level 4 Health and Social Care. CSS, Degree in Youth and
  • Community Work
  • Degree in Childhood Studies
  • Diploma Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce England
  • Diploma Level 3 Residential Child Care
  • Diploma Level 5 in Leadership for Health & Social Care and Children & Young People’s Services
  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare England

Successful applicants may be required to undertake additional training and learning modules.
